Work has started on this documentary film project, looking back at the explosion of African and Afro-Caribbean music in Sydney during the 1980’s.
It features interviews with those who were there, such as Eddie Quansah (King Cobra, Bush Telegraph), Sam Derchie (Kalabash, Klub Hi-Life) and Winston Hazell (Nahbenzi, Tokoloshe) as well as rare archival audio and video.

Paul Mbenna and the Lorikeet Orchestra

Bembeya Music is working with Paul, a Tanzanian music star, and with local musicians and producers to compose and record a new album of Afro-Australian music.

The first song from this project, Hamsini Hamsini, was released in 2012. Watch the YouTube video.
